Volunteers are the backbone and lifeblood of our organization. Volunteers enable us to offer the sports training and competition opportunities to as many people as possible. These activities provide our athletes with an opportunity to grow and showcase their skills. Special Olympics would not exist today without the time, energy, dedication, and commitment of our volunteers.
We need your help. We want to grow our program and offer it to more athletes in Hillsborough County. We have a need for both year-round and day-of volunteers to work at various levels and fill a wide variety of roles in our programs.
Year-round volunteers
Committee Chairperson
Committee members and support
Head and assistant coaches
Office Support
Day-of volunteers
Buddies/Huggers
Officials/referees
Security, Scorers
Meal distribution
Day-of Volunteers are needed at all of our competitions. See the Competition Schedule to see dates of opportunities.
Longer-term volunteers are a big need in our organization right now. We need individuals to step forward and make an impact through their dedication and leadership. Several of our committees are seeking new members to help out.
Below is a list of committees that are in need of additional volunteer assistance. Included with them is a basic overview of the responsibilities associated with the different committees. If interested in a specific committee, contact the committee chairperson for more information and how to get involved.

Help prepare and/or convey information about Special Olympics to various groups through this website, newsletters, publicity and speaking engagements.
Transportation - Chairperson Needed
Provide or arrange transportation for athletes and volunteers to Special Olympics training, competitions and activities.
Sports Training - Chairperson Craig Gordon
e-mail: Craig.Gordon@sdhc.k12.fl.us
Work directly with athletes to improve their skills in a specific Special Olympics sport. Coaches are needed to add sports to existing training programs based at schools, parks & rec centers, independent training programs and group homes. We also need volunteers to start new training programs in areas that do not currently have Special Olympics. You can organize and start a training program to offer athletes the joy of training and competition.
Please remember: We are also willing to try and match an individual's specific interest with a specific organization need/desire: computer programming, entertainment, workshop leader, proposal/grant writing, coaches training, etc.
Only "Class A" registered volunteers are authorized to be coaches and committee chairpersons. To become a registered volunteer download the registration application from our website: http://www.specialolympicshc.org/forms
Day-of volunteers are required to register as a "Class B" volunteer and may register at the event with a valid photo-ID.
